The Leander Lions dropped their third straight game in a 58-46 loss to the Cedar Park Timberwolves on Tuesday.
“When we stay focused, and locked in we can get it done and do what it takes to win,” Leander senior guard David Bonner said. “We just have to keep doing it, and stay consistent and play, and we didn’t do that towards the end.”
The game was close in the opening half, with both teams tying in the first quarter, 11-11, and Cedar Park only being up by two in the second. Timberwolves junior forward Keaton Hervey led the team with eight points in the half. For
Leander, it was senior David Bonner who led the team with seven points at the break.
“At times, we were good, but we didn’t get it done towards the end,” Bonner said. “Kind of sucks, we’re in this funk right now, but we’ll just try and get out of it.”
It was the second half where the game escaped the Lions. The Cedar Park offense started gaining momentum and didn’t stop. Hervey continued to score effectively for the Timberwolves, totaling 18 points on the night. Leander juniors Kobe Thompson, Chase Cotton, and Bonner led the team in the final half with Thompson scoring 11 points, Cotton with eight and Bonner finishing with 10.
“I did alright, but I could’ve done better,” Thompson said. “I could help my team more, and we should’ve won that game, but we’ll be better.”
Next, the Lions travel to Marble Falls to face the Mustangs as district gets closer to wrapping up. Leander currently sits at fifth place in the District 25-5A standings after its recent losing streak, but should get back to its winning ways against a Marble Falls team that’s 0-10 in district play.
“We just got to get back in practice,” Thompson said. “We got to do all of the things Coach wants us to do, re-evaluating, stopping turnovers, and we’ll bounce back and be ready for Marble.”
